Applejack

Wow, this will be a bit hard to critique because I really love this pic very much! I guess I'll just give this critique a go and tell ya the reasons why I chose the ratings I did for your pic!

Vision: I gave you a 4.5 star rating because to me your vision on this pic was really well laid out, the viewer can easily depict what you were trying to portray here with Applejack. You did a great job portraying her determined personality in this picture, that's one of the things that really caught my eye, other than the really awesome details and lighting, but I'll get to that in a moment! <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w…" width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="387" title=" (Wink)"/>

Originality: I gave you a 4 star rating simply because I have seen other pictures like this where AJ is using her lasso, but the thing that I thought really made this original was your unique art style. Your art style in creating this pic was really eye catching and I absolutely love the background you have made, it really fits the scene well and works great in your original art style!

Technique: I gave you a 4 star rating on technique because I saw just a few things that caught my eye that I thought looked a bit off... now some of these things are rather small and just me being nit picky such as the waters edge on the left side, to me it looks a bit flat and unnatural with the rest of the water, though I realize that water tends to be more opaque at the edge to me it seems a bit solid at certain points, and for some reason just seems a bit off in my opinion. The other thing that I really noticed was Applejack's Left leg, (on the right side of the viewer, where the cutiemark is). I find the part of her leg where her cutiemark is to be a bit flat and it has more form towards the bottom half of the leg. I think it may be the lighting that makes it appear that way to me. And the last thing I notice is where right under Applejack's chin is, right where her left foreleg is and how it bends, it looks a bit as though it is connected to her back and side. I think that it just needed to be a bit more defined in that area and it would have been just perfect and easier to distinguish.

Now that I got that part out of the way, I want to tell you the things that I saw that I really liked about your art technique! First of all I think that you are a very talented artist, and your technique in proportions, lighting, and color was very well used in this pic. The lighting and color in this pic really made it look lively and energetic. I really felt as though I was taking some kind of part or action right along Applejack in this pic. I really liked how you blurred the background just enough that it is clear to the viewer and leaves Applejack as the main focus, which leaves me to composition. Composition and perspective in this picture really worked together wonderfully, it really set the scene just right and really supports the action and movement you created.

Impact: I gave you a 4.5 star rating on impact because this picture immediately gravitated my attention from most everything that was on my screen. I was actually in the middle of deleting deviation stacks giving each pic that was on the front about .5 seconds before deciding to delete, and as I kept deleting I suddenly stopped on the one that had this pic at its front. I immediately clicked on the deviation, hoping that I didn't click delete by accident as I have before! XD When I reached the full size of the pic I studied it and was blown away how awesome this picture was! I couldn't tear my eyes off of the screen as I looked at it! It left one of those "I wish that picture was mine" sort of feeling. I immediately added this to my favorites and scrolled down a bit to leave a comment, and when I saw that you had asked for critiques, I debated whether to leave one or not, but in seeing how much I loved this pic I thought that it would be awesome if I could leave just what I thought about it!

So yeah, all in all, this picture is incredibly good! I truly think that you did an amazing job on this picture of Applejack. I really wish I could keep on saying how much I like this pic, but I'd probably start to sound as though I'm rambling after awhile! XD So I'll just end this critique saying that you did excellent on this picture, I really love what you have done here and I can't wait to see more pics made by you! Keep up the awesome work Artflex!
